In the history of sneakers, there is perhaps no more successful collaboration between a sneaker brand and an athlete than in the case of Michael Jordan and Nike. From the union of these two concepts came a legend in the form of Air Jordan in 1984. These sneakers were initially worn exclusively by the legendary thirty-three, however, within a few months of their introduction, Jordans were also in the hands of the public.
The legend in the form of the Air Jordan 1
The Air Jordan 1, which Michael first put on more than thirty years ago, is now one of the most popular silhouettes among sneakerheads. But the beginnings weren't exactly easy. In 1985, the most famous basketball player in history was banned from wearing Jordan 1 shoes because they didn't meet the prescribed game dress code, according to the NBA . To make matters worse, he would have to pay a $5,000 fine for every game he wore them.
This, of course, wouldn't be the seasoned Nike, which had a proper respect for its workhorse. Rather than risk the recall of this Jordan sneaker, it was decided that the company would rather cash in any such fine to Michael just so he could wear the J's as they were.
